We arrived in the middle of the night in Bishkek, capital of Kyrgyzstan (our home from 2001-2003.) Unfortunately, not one piece of our luggage arrived with us. We are hoping it might arrive in the next day or two, most importantly before Blake flies to Tajikistan on Sunday to start work.
I'm writing from the home of our friends, Rory and Randy, whose own daughter and sons are happily entertaining our own! They have a lovely home, good coffee and great conversation. We enjoy hearing about how Bishkek has changed since we lived here. It feels good to be back. It feels superb not to have any plane rides for the next couple days.
My Russian is slowly coming back to me. Last night as we got into the shuttle to head to our hotel, I was reminded of the great Russian word, "koshmar" (nightmare.) The driver smiled when I said it---referring to standing in the lobby of the airport for over an hour with three incredibly tired children who I couldn't keep from lying down on the cement floor---much to the consternation of the Kyrgyz who were noting our arrival.
Stay tuned for more adventures. Oh, and by the way, the fresh cukes, tomatoes, melon and bread are just as good as ever!
